Miami Art Central. From Mar 23rd through Jun 18th, 2006Miami Art Central will present Victor Grippo: A Restrospective, 1971-2001, the artist’s first comprehensive exhibition in the United States. Victor Grippo (1936 – 2002), was one of the most extraordinary and respected artists in the history of Argentine and Latin American contemporary art. Grippo’s singular universe, a unique crossing of conceptualism and alchemy, elicits continuous associations among art, science, and daily life. His investigations make evident the instability, transformation and constant movement of things toward new realities. Through his intense career, the artist kept modifying and converting the frugal material nature of the most humble, common objects into powerful metaphors of latent energy. The exhibition provides a chronological vision of Grippo’s work by including objects, installations, works-in-progress, photographic documentation of urban actions, boxes and environments. In addition to important works such as Equilibrios, Cercando la luce and the Anónimos series, the installation Mesas de trabajo y reflexión, presented in 2002 at Documenta XI in Kassel, Germany will be reconstructed at Miami Art Central. Curated by Marcelo E. Pacheco, chief curator of the Museo de Arte Latino Americano de Buenos Aires, the exhibition prompts a necessary recognition of this internationally relevant artistic figure. Previous anthological exhibitions of his work were held at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, in 1995. Now MAC is bringing Grippo to Miami, a true relic of Latin American contemporary art. For mor information please contact 305.455.3337
