From March 6th throuh 18th, 2006The Miami Bach Society will present its annual early music celebration featuring the classical music of Central and South America written before 1800. Exploring this little-known repertory of Latin American music written for religious and secular purposes, the Society will present virtuoso performers, playing works of their native countries. Concerts take place in venues throughout Coral Gables. Jordi Savall, called “The King of Spain” will open the event on March 6th with music from his native country. He will bring his ensemble, Hesperion XXI with 23 musicians and singers to perform music from Europe as well as pieces from the Old World taken to the New. As the week progresses, there will be artists from Bolivia, Guatemala, Argentina and England as well as France, and the United States. They will be joined by others form Mexico and Cuba (recent émigrés.) The Festival will also feature the Miami Bach Society’s Chamber Orchestra, giving its annual Royal Fireworks concert. The event will be held at the Biltmore Hotel with real fireworks and special guest artist, Horacio Franco of Mexico, playing the recorder.
