Bass Museum of Art: Beautiful by Pascale Marthine Tayou

Dec 1 - Mar 27, 2017

As a self-described nomad, Tayou’s practice is keystoned by organic and collaboratively formed installations and interventions. His works are directly reliant on his immediate local and recent travels. In this occasion site-specific work called Welcome Wall, composed of 75 animated LED signs, reading “welcome” is a wide array of languages. For his exhibition, Tayou creates an organic and collaboratively formed intervention with the museum’s permanent collection, creating a dialogue between contemporary art works and objects from the past.

Pascale Marthine Tayou (b. 1966, Cameroon) lives and works between Ghent, Belgium and Yaoundé. His work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions at museums around the world, including Musée Africain, Lyon, FR; Kunsthalle, Bregenz, AT; MACRO, Rome, IT; MUDAM LUXEMBOURG, LU; Malmö Konsthall, Malmö, SE; Kunsthalle Wien, public space Karlsplatz, Vienna, AT; Palais de Tokyo, Paris, FR; among others.
