Books and Books Coral Gables. Jun 24th, 2009. Author Joseph O’Neill will be reading and signing his most recent book, Netherland, at Books and Books Coral Gables on June 24th, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.
Joseph O’Neill’s Netherland is a brilliant novel about a European man living in Manhattan after 9/11, with two troubled loves: that for his wife, and that for his adopted country. Told in a lyrical, mesmerizing voice, his journey involves an immersion in the cricketing subculture of New York, a tragic friendship with a Trinidadian immigrant, and a darkening understanding of the great American narrative.
It is a story of heritage and home, of sport and work, of friendship and love, and ultimately offers universal truths in the search for meaning in life and for the hope for renewal.
Joseph O’Neill was born in Ireland and raised in Holland. He received a law degree from Cambridge University and worked as a barrister in London. He writes regularly for The Atlantic Monthly and is the author of two previous novels, This Is the Life and The Breezes, and of a family history, Blood-Dark Track, which was a New York Times Notable Book. He lives with his family in New York City.
