Frost Opera Theater presents two evenings of two one-act operas. With Jeffrey Buchman as guest stage director, Alan Johnson as artistic director and Rosa Mercedes as guest choreographer.
Mavra, Stravinsky’s 1922 neo-classical chamber opera in the comic ‘buffa’ tradition of the 18th century is a twenty-five minute opera from 1921 careens along with four characters featuring two arias, a duet, and a quartet. In the other hand Ainadamar (Fountain of Tears), by Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov, premiered in 2003, garnered Grammy Awards for Best Opera Recording and Best Classical Contemporary Composition portrays the relationship between the Spanish playwright and poet, Federico Garcia Lorca and the Catalan tragedian Margarita Xirgu.
