The Philadelphia Orchestra one of the preeminent orchestras in the world with Yannick Nézet-Séguin as music director and Stéphane Denève as principal guest conductor will play Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet where the music evokes the beauty and tragedy of Shakespeare’s famous star-crossed lovers.
The program also includes Mendelssohn’s Incidental Music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, originally composed for Shakespeare’s delightful romp about love and mistaken identities,
and Beatrice and Benedict by Berlioz inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and considered one of Berlioz’s most delicate and subtle orchestral pieces.
