The New World School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Alfred Gershfeld, will perform major works by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov. His beloved 2nd Piano Concerto in C Minor will be performed by the famed American pianist, Christopher O’Riley, also known by millions across America as the host of the National Public Radio show From the Top. Another important work on the program will be Rachmaninov’s impressive and virtuosic Symphonic Dances.

In addition to his many accolades as a prolific pianist, Christopher O’Riley is known as the host of NPR’s From the Top a position he has held for the past 15 years. The format of the show allows O’Riley to introduce the up-and-coming music stars to millions of listeners and music aficionados. With a vast and varied repertoire of music, O’Riley has performed across the nation as a soloist with virtually all of the major American orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Chicago Symphony, among others. He has performed concertos by Bach, Mozart, and Liszt, as well as Górecki and Michael Daugherty’s Le Tombeau de Liberace in a series of concerts with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
