Feb 22nd, 2009. 7:30 p.m. The 2008-2009 concert season of the University of Miami Choral Studies Program continues on Sunday, February 22nd with “A Romantic Compass” at St. Philip’s Church in Coral Gables. The concert will feature the Frost Maelstrom men’s chorus, the Frost Women’s Chamber Ensemble, and the Frost Chamber Singers, performing choral music that is from or inspired by the Romantic period.
The Frost Maelstrom will perform music of Schubert, Offenbach, Bortniansky, and Randall Thompson. The Frost Women’s Chamber Ensemble’s performance will include a sampling of folksongs and the arrangement of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy made popular in the 1992 film Sister Act. The Frost Chamber Singers round out the program with Romantic choral classics including Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, and selections from Debussy, Brahms, Brucker, Rheinberger, and Brahms.
