NAEMI Hosts Its 27th Annual Exhibition

May 1st, 2015, 6:00pm

The National Art Exhibitions by the Mentally Ill (NAEMI), an organization dedicated to collecting, displaying and selling art by artists recovering from mental illnesses, will open its 27th Annual Art Exhibition

“Mental illness has been in the news a lot recently. Mental Illness is the ‘abandon’ illness of our century. For the past 28 years, NAEMI has made it its mission to give a voice to artists who do not have a voice. By holding the exhibition during May, National Mental Health Month, we hope to bring additional attention to the struggle of those who have been diagnosed with mental illnesses and are silenced and abandoned,” said NAEMI’s Founder, Juan Martin. “Our ultimate goal is to help these artists be recognized and fight the stigma that so often accompanies mental illnesses.”

Featuring the works of artists from Paraguay, Mexico, Cuba, Spain and the United States, this exhibition is sponsored by Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council and the Miami-Dade County Commissioners, Magellan Complete Care, Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Pharmaceutical.

The exhibition begins with an opening reception on May 1st, 2015 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM offering attendees a chance to meet some of the artists and those involved with assembling the show. The exhibit will continue through June 3rd, 2015.

Founded in 1988, NAEMI is dedicated solely to discovering, exhibiting, promoting and collecting the art of persons recovering from mental illnesses.
