For this project, Amanda Keeley has initiated a unique partnership utilizing her project EXILE Books, which will serve as a collaborative catalyst connecting the de la Cruz Collection with its neighboring facility, the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. Keeley will install a temporary screen-printing studio within the de la Cruz Collection, allowing students from the Little Haiti Cultural Complex to participate in live-printing sessions, thereby producing new work that will activate the on-site installation.
EXILE Books will concurrently curate a selection of artist books that employ screen-printing techniques, publications that reflect the cultural diversity of Little Haiti, as well as titles by artists represented in the de la Cruz Collection’s current exhibition. This "Magic City Collective" will explore the numerous ways artists use the printed medium to communicate, connect, and impact communities beyond our own. As a documentation of this participatory process, EXILE Books will also produce a publication that will be a collective artist book; all students contributing a "work in process" will be displayed on-site and included in the publication. The finished artist book will be available at the closing of the exhibition.
