Frost Opera Theater rounds out their season of Puccini’s romantic masterpiece Il trittico, with the two final one-act operas of the trilogy: Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica. Gianni Schicchi, the most popular and lightest of the three, is a farcical and familial tale of greed and conniving with a libretto based on an incident in Dante’s Divine Comedy, featuring one of the most popular themes in all of classical music, the beloved aria "O mio babbino caro." By many accounts Puccini’s favorite of the three, Suor Angelica, follows as a heart-wrenching tale of loss and repentance filled with glorious melodies and emotion. This opera spins a seemingly simple tale of life in a convent and the title heroine’s grave secret weighed by motherly love, despair and finally, spiritual redemption.
