Praised as “impressive” and “high caliber” by South Florida Classical Review, the Frost Symphony Orchestra opens Festival Miami 2014 with Thomas Sleeper conducting masterpieces by American composers Barber, Bernstein, Creston, Ives, and Ruggles.
The program begins with Leonard Bernstein’s feverish Candide Overture followed by Charles Ives’s haunting miniature, The Unanswered Question. Internationally acclaimed saxophonist Dale Underwood appears as soloist on Paul Creston’s Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra and virtuoso violinist Michael Ludwig performs Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto.
The all-American program also features Carl Ruggles’s powerful one-movement work, Sun-Treader and a new gem, Three Glorious Days, by Matthew Evan Taylor, which will receive its world premiere.
