ArtFlorida '08 Competition and Exhibition, a juried exhibition of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, mixed media and computer/electronic art, will open Thursday, October 23rd, 2008. Juried by Irvin Lippman, Director, Museum Of Art | Fort Lauderdale, ArtFlorida '08 will showcase 84 selected works from artists all competing for cash prizes totaling $3,500.
With a top award of $2,000 for "Best in Show", $200 prizes for the five best of category winners, and $100 prizes for five Judge's Recognition awards, the Broward Art Guild is proud to be able to contribute to the success of local artists and provide a venue for these artist to showcase their talents and perspective through different mediums of art production.
The ArtFlorida '08 Competition pooled entries from the state of Florida in various fields of art, with a majority from the tri-county area. Eligible artists reside in the state and all works of art are original and contemporary, having been created with in the last two years and independent of any classes or workshops.
Artists not selected for ArtFlorida are automatically juried for selection in the traditionally festive "Salon des Refusés" Exhibit, also hosted at the JM Family Enterprises Gallery at ArtServe from November 1st through November 8th. The Salon's reception will be held on Thursday, November 6th, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. First, second and third place cash awards for Salon des Refusés will be selected by People's Choice at the reception.
