Cricket Taplin, co-owner of the Sagamore Hotel, the acclaimed boutique hotel in Miami Beach, has announced that she and her husband Martin Taplin will be hosting 80” of Art, a New World School of the Arts (NWSA) alumni art auction in celebration of the school’s 25-year anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Taplin will donate 100% of the proceeds of the auction to NWSA’s visual arts department. With at least seventy-five participating artists, among which are Hernan Bas, Bert Rodriguez, and Mike Vasquez, the one-day exclusive exhibition is representative of the diverse and distinct artistic styles that define NWSA. Sponsored by the Cricket Taplin Collection, the Sagamore Hotel and Bacardi, admittance to the show is by RSVP invitation only. The starting bid for each work of art will be equal to 50% of the value of the piece.
“Being involved with New World School of the Arts is very rewarding for me” stated Cricket Taplin. “I love being surrounded by young people with great ideas and lots of motivation. The arts bring us all together, collaborations with the artists and Maggy Cuesta, dean of visual arts at NWSA, keeps things fresh and exciting.”
Directed by Cuesta, 80” of Art showcases the work of more than six dozen NWSA high school and college visual arts alums. “The complete collection of artworks will be made accessible to guests via a silent auction, offering the conservatory an opportunity to generate additional revenues” announced Maggy Cuesta. The show will be comprised of at least seventy-five 8”x10” pieces of art that will be meticulously displayed in the public area adjacent to the Sagamore’s Gallery Dining Room.
“The response from the alumni has been overwhelming” commented a proud Cuesta – “We sent out the call-for-submission and within a couple of days a great number of alums had already expressed their interest and commitment. Some of these students have been gone for many years, but when I reached out to them it was as if they had been here yesterday – they are eager to contribute and be part of NWSA’s 25th year anniversary celebration. Their loyalty and pride in the school is palpable and it is evident that they have never forgotten that it was here, at NWSA, where their craft was polished and their talent was nurtured.”
