The Arsht Center is thrilled to announce the 10th Anniversary season of JAZZ ROOTS which brings jazz legends from around the globe to our own Knight Concert Hall – acclaimed as one of the most acoustically superb concert halls of our age!
We’ll kick off the 2017-2018 season with Ella Fitzgerald 100th Birthday Tribute, a star-studded celebration of the First Lady of Song’s centennial birthday. In December, we are excited to host the globally celebrated musician, educator and current bandleader of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Jon Batiste and his band, Stay Human. We begin 2018 with a collaboration that spans generations – teen prodigy and two-time Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Joey Alexander and his trio shares the stage with Grammy Award-winning legend Ramsey Lewis and his quartet. In February 10-time Grammy winner George Benson returns to the Arsht Center and will be joined by ukulele sensation Jake Shimabukuro, who has collaborated with Dave Koz, Yo-Yo Ma, and many others. In March, we welcome back the 2017 Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album, Gregory Porter with the remarkable Sara Gazarek opening. The season concludes in April with the phenomenal guitarist, Diego Figueiredo who will be opening for Cuban pianist, composer and arranger, Chucho Valdés with Irakere 45.
