New Word School of the Arts was created by the Florida State Legislature in 1984 as a Center of Excellence in the visual and performing arts. A unique collaborative venture of the University of Florida, Miami Dade College and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the school provides a continuous comprehensive program of artistic training, academic development and preparation for careers in dance, music, theater, and visual arts. NWSA is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance, Music, Theater and Art and Design. All academic programs at NWSA are approved by the Florida State Department of Education and accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools.

New World School of the Arts confers the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees and the high school diploma through its institutional partners. Located near major cultural, NWSA is surrounded by entertainment and government facilities in downtown Miami, a cosmopolitan city with an international flavor and a dynamic arts environment. Students have easy access to first-hand experiences in the arts, both as audience and participants.

The Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus, adjacent to the school, provides all the general education requirements as well as many other student services. The South Beach art deco district, Coconut Grove, the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts, Art Basel, the beaches and a variety of urban and suburban neighborhoods are just minutes away. All of Miami serves as the campus for the New World School of the Arts students. The artist faculty of New World School of the Arts, drawn from a local, national and international pool of talent, comprises individuals with established artistic reputations, professional expertise, and demonstrated commitment to the creative development of young talent. The student/faculty ratio promotes a high level of personal interaction and strong mentor relationships.

Students are educated in a humanistic and personalized atmosphere designed to achieve mastery of traditional artistic forms while stimulating creativity and individuality. With an Executive Board representing the cultural, educational and business communities of Miami and with the State encouragement and support, the school is committed to the highest standards of excellence in academics and the arts. For more information about New World School of the Arts or to view our Fall 2010 calendar of events and purchase tickets, please visit our website at: nwsa.mdc.edu.
